3 Ivory Coast Players Arsenal Should Target

The World Cup is well underway and fans across the globe will be looking at potential transfer targets for their club. At Arsenal, it’s no different as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of launching an assault on the Premier League title next year. With a goalkeeper, right-back, central defender, defensive midfielder and a striker among those on the wish list there is plenty of business for the Gunners to complete this summer.

On nation that Arsene Wenger will have is eye on is the Ivory Coast. The African nation have a host of names that are remembered fondly by Premier League fans, with the likes of Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure in their ranks. There’s also players some won’t remember fondly, namely Gervinho.

However, there’s also players that we should be targeting. Some are known, some are not but all of these prospective transfers can offer something to the Gunners next season. One player should definitely be on his way to the Emirates this summer given the transfer activity, while the others are potential targets.

3. Serge Aurier

Where else would we start? The young full-back is touted as the replacement for Bacary Sagna, who departed for manchester City on a free transfer during the week. Aurier is heavily linked to the Gunners and he even went as far as telling an Arsenal supporter that he will be joining the club after the World Cup.

Aurier was a stand-out star in Ligue 1 last season after an impressive display for Toulouse, earning himself a place in the team of the season. At the World Cup, young Aurier has already grabbed a couple of assists thanks to his contribution to his nation’s opening victory against the Japanese.

Bacary Sagna will be hard to replace but Aurier fits the bill perfectly. A threat in attack, just like Sagna, Aurier has a wicked ball delivery that the strikers will take advantage of- particularly if Wenger secures a big name finisher. At the back, the Ivorian is also completely capable.

Under Arsene Wenger, Serge Aurier would blossom into a world beater. If Arsenal don’t snap him up this summer then another big club will somewhere down the line, so fans will be glad to hear that a deal is reported to be agreed and awaiting sanction from both clubs before an official announcement is made. Let’s hope this is true. Use the page numbers below to navigate through the rest of the article.
