3 Germans Arsenal Could Sign This Summer

Following Germany’s success at the World  Cup, Arsenal may be looking to snap up some of their players. But which Germans in particular should Arsenal consider signing?

1. Sami Khedira

Yes, it’s one of the most repeated names in Arsenal transfer news today. But there’s no denying that Sami Khedira is a world-class midfielder, and one who Arsenal should certainly snap up.

Khedira is known as a defensive midfielder, and, whilst he does boast considerable defensive qualities, he is certainly not the orthodox, ‘Arteta-type’ holding midfielder. He is more of an ‘all-round midfielder’, but is one of the best in the world in this position. Of course, Sami Khedira plays for Real Madrid, but only has a year left to run on his contract. He has reportedly rejected a new deal, and Real Madrid are looking to sell him, as opposed to losing him for free next summer.

Arsenal are certainly in need of a defensive midfielder, with current holding midfielders Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini approaching the latter stages of their respective careers. Khedira can play the holding role into which Arteta has been moulded by Wenger, and certainly possesses the attributes to be successful in such a position. However, Wenger could be looking for a more rounded midfielder, which is a role which suits Khedira better. Whilst he can be a successful holding midfielder, Khedira’s greatest asset is his bursting runs from midfield, something we have seen Aaron Ramsey do with success in the past season.

Sami Khedira also has experience of winning titles, and playing in huge games, which would no doubt be useful in the Gunners’ squad, particularly following their FA Cup success last season. That winning mentality is necessary in any top side, and it is something Khedira would have in abundance, following Germany’s World Cup victory. What’s more, Khedira is best friends with Mesut Özil, and also gets on well with Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski, so would be tempted to link up with his German compatriots. Khedira is said to have dropped his wage demands in order to make the move to Arsenal possible, and a fee of around £20m is reported to be enough to convince Madrid to sell. Use the page numbers below to reveal the other two players.
