Arsenal are expected to announce that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will extend his loan spell in Italy following an impressive season with Roma.

The 26-year-old is content with another year in Serie A after he enjoyed such a good season with Luciano Spalleti’s men, helping them to a third place finish.

That will mean more Champions League football for the Polish international and with it, the chance to be Roma’s main man between the sticks, which has serious benefits.

Szczesny has already rejuvenated his career to be Poland’s number one shot stopper, much to the annoyance of former Gunners team-mate Lukasz Fabianski.

His 42 appearances during the 2015/16 campaign have helped both him and his new side, and in recent interviews has stated the loan spell could have been the greatest decision of his career.

It all started following the capture of former Chelsea star Petr Cech who now fronts a strong goal-keeping partnership alongside David Ospina throughout the season.

For that reason Szczesny won’t stand for returning to the bench and according to TransferMarketWeb has tied up the contract for another year in the Italian top flight.

Speaking to the local media earlier in the year, Szczesny attempted to stay tight-lipped about his future, but it now seems to be common knowledge on where his destination lies for 2016/17.

I know where I will be playing next season, but I won’t tell.

I learned more in four months under Spalleti than in 10 years in England. He puts a lot of importance on playing the ball to feet. One day we trained for over 45 minutes just on goal kicks.

Although it may seem like Szczesny looks set to make a permanent move to the Italian giants, Arsenal will always be in his heart and he has said on multiple occasions that he would one day like to return to the Gunners.

Therefore it can only be a good thing that he’s learning so much out in Italy, if we can have a goalkeeper coming back that can challenge Ospina for a position once Cech is gone then we’ll be laughing.

All Arsenal fans can do now is continue to support Szczesny on his stint in Italy, one day he will be wearing a red and white jersey again so be careful what you wish for.
