Contract talks have been prolonged and it now looks like Aarons will not sign a new deal with Newcastle, and his current contract expires in the summer. Reports now suggest that The Gunners are interested and watching the situation closely.

The 20-year-old can play at left midfield or behind the striker. Arsenal may be looking for reinforcements in that area of the field with Tomas Rosicky set to leave the club this summer.

Aarons would not be an immediate fix, but he does have the potential to become a top-class player. Despite having played just 11 senior games for Newcastle, Aarons is highly thought of by the staff at Newcastle and he also has caps for the England under-20 team.

The futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell are up in the air following Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to involve them in the first team. The manager appears to lack trust in the duo, and that casts doubt on their long-term future at the club. Perhaps Aarons would be viewed as a replacement for one of them.
